Stunning Performance
The oldest European school, located in Luxembourg since 1956, took part in PISA. It was able to surpass the scores of the leading participating countries (Taiwan, Korea, Finland). According to OECD standards, European schools are up to two years ahead of the public school systems in Germany in terms of knowledge transfer. The schools teach multilingually.
The European School System
The European School RheinMain pursues the aim common to all European Schools i.e. the “Basic Principles and Objectives” expressed by the Secretary General of European Schools, which are:

to instil confidence in pupils regarding their cultural identity – the basis of their development as citizens of Europe

to provide pupils with a sound all-round education based on a wide range of subjects from nursery through to university entrance

to attain proficiency both in one’s native language and in foreign languages

to promote knowledge in Mathematics and Natural Sciences throughout a pupil’s school career

to nurture a ‘global attitude’; this a focal point in Humanities lessons
-
to support creativity in Music and Performing Arts and to instil a cultural appreciation of European heritage
-
to develop talent in sport and to promote a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and participation in sports events

to aid and support pupils in their subject choices; when pupils are in the higher secondary classes, experienced counsellors advise in matters of university entrance and careers guidance
-
to uphold values such as tolerance, co-operation, communication skills; the promotion of good social conduct towards fellow school members

to prepare pupils personally, socially and academically for the next phase in higher education
The Central Office of the Secretary General of the European Schools writes the following about the European Schools system:
The European Schools are official educational establishments controlled jointly by the governments of the Member States of the European Union.
They are legally regarded as public institutions in all of these countries.
The mission of the European Schools is to provide a multilingual and multicultural education for nursery, primary and secondary level pupils. They are aimed primarily for children of staff of the European institutions.

Based on the recommendation of the European Parliament, the European Schools have opened up their curricula and European Baccalaureate since 2005 for national Schools.
Accredited European Schools are schools which provide European schooling, of the same type as that currently provided in the European Schools, but within the framework of the Member States’ national schools and hence outside the administrative and financial framework to which the European Schools are subject.
At present there are 23 Accredited Europ​ean Schools​​ and other ones are planned to open.​​​​

Curriculum of the European School RheinMain
The main subjects are taught in the languages of the sections (German, English).
At the European School RheinMain there are initially two language sections. The subject distribution and the curricula of both sections are identical (except for the mother tongue).

teaching a first foreign language LII (German, English or French) is compulsory from the first grade of primary school up to the Baccalaureate

All students must learn a second foreign language LIII at the beginning of the first year of secondary school. Any of the languages offered at the European School RheinMain can be chosen

From the fourth year of secondary school onwards, students can learn a third foreign language LIV. Any of the languages offered at the European School RheinMain can be chosen

the language classes are made up of students of different nationalities and are taught by teachers who, if possible, speak the language as their native language

from the third grade of secondary school, students can learn an ancient language as a language of the common European tradition

History and geography are taught in the student's first foreign language (German, English or French). Economics, which is offered as an elective subject from the fourth year of secondary school onwards, is also taught in one of these three languages.
All of the above subjects are taught from the third year of secondary school onwards in groups of students of different nationalities -
Finally, daily encounters in the schoolyard, in the corridors and in the break rooms make it easier to learn foreign languages and promote the understanding that the use of these languages is not only necessary, but quite natural.
At the European School RheinMain, individual religious beliefs and personal convictions are respected. Religious education or lessons in non-denominational ethics are part of the curriculum.
The European School RheinMain will offer the entire range of the European Schools curriculum. It will strictly follow the rules established by the Board of Governors and adapt to future changes.
The curricula of all European schools are harmonized.
