Literature is at the heart of the L1 curriculum and recently Mr Cuesta’s S7L1 class have been reading ‘La Fiesta del Chivo’ by Mario Vargas Llosa. ESRM’s dedicated Spanish department has been able to give the S7L1 class the unique opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of how life in the Dominican Republic during the dictatorship was. Frau Hell and Senora Cruz recounted their experiences to the students which allowed the students to gain a more in depth understanding of the text and helping them to contextualise the content of the text. We would like to thank our guest speakers for giving their time to talk to the students.
MUN ESRM
ESRM's annual Model United Nations conference took place a bit differently this year. After months of planning, the student-led MUN executive team held the conference online over Zoom in order to adhere to the hygiene rules. However, that did not stop MUNESRM from being a fun, informative weekend. Mr Zijlstra officically opened the online conference, which ran from 5th-7th March. Sixty students from over 5 different schools around the world joined the online event and discussed topics such as freedom of speech on social media and how to preserve the right to privacy in the digital age. In addition to the main conference, the students also ran a digital social event meaning that students could make meaningful bonds whilst being 1000s of kilometres away. Let’s hope that next year’s conference will be held in person! A huge congratulations to the entire student team for running such a successful event.
On Wednesday and Thursday this week, all grades PP-P5 celebrated our ‘Literature Festival’ in school. All classroom doors were turned into giant book covers, with a variety of booked themed activities happening in class. We thank all the parents for donations of books for the class libraries. Can you see your classroom door?
