Under the direction of Mr Hafke students have been building their own ’poor man guitars’. Using cigar boxes, wood and tools, students have ben given the opportunity to create something from scratch, engage with their peers and learn about blues music. Ultimately the club will perform a Blues concert using their guitars. We will keep you posted on the progress that the students are making with regards to their instruments.

Literature is at the heart of the L1 curriculum and recently Mr Cuesta’s S7L1 class have been reading ‘La Fiesta del Chivo’ by Mario Vargas Llosa. ESRM’s dedicated Spanish department has been able to give the S7L1 class the unique opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of how life in the Dominican Republic during the dictatorship was. Frau Hell and Senora Cruz recounted their experiences to the students which allowed the students to gain a more in depth understanding of the text and helping them to contextualise the content of the text. We would like to thank our guest speakers for giving their time to talk to the students.
