WIR - Week in Reality

ESRM startet neues Projekt „Week in Reality“

ESRM is starting a new project called “week in reality“

Students will visit companies and experience different professions close up
Nowadays most students ask themselves, “what should I do after I finish school?”. Secondary school graduates want the next step to be something special and above all correspond with their interests and talents. However, the huge number of professions out there is oftentimes overwhelming for them.
It is therefore all the more important to get a close look at professions to be able to have a better understanding. A week’s internship in a company is often not sufficient anymore.

The European School RheinMain would like to close that gap and start co-operations with companies from the area to introduce different professions and industries. Gabi Schurkus, responsible for marketing and communication at ESRM, has developed the following concept:
Up to 30 S6 students will be taking part in the project from 27th June until 5th July 2017. During this time they will visit up to 14 companies (one company in the morning and another company in the afternoon). Every company taking part in the project has the opportunity to introduce one or more professions. Our students are thus given the chance to get to know the professions, get in direct contact with the professionals, have a tour of the company, learn more about their processes and lose some of their inhibitions. This in turn facilitates a subsequent contact and possible inquiry for internships, training courses or dual studies, etc.

“We support and welcome this project very much as it links our students to future employers and helps them in their choice of a later career”, says Tom Zijlstra, Director of the European School RheinMain.
“We are very pleased that this project has had such good resonance - after just one week of external communication, more than 14 companies had already registered to participate in this project”, says project manager Gabi Schurkus.
Together with their teachers and career advisers, Mrs. Daniella Schmitt (English language section) and Mr. Michael Nickel (German language section), the students are already preparing their visits meticulously by reading the homepages of the respective companies intensively and preparing questions for their visits.

An exciting project is on its way and – this much we can say at this point in time already – will take place again in 2018.
