Weimar Klassenfahrt vom 12.-14. Oktober mit allen S7 SchülerInnen

Am Donnerstag, dem 12. Oktober ging es um 8.30 mit zwei Bussen mit insgesamt 79 SchülerInnen und sechs LehrerInnen los auf die diesjährige dreitägige Klassenfahrt nach Weimar und das Dokumentationszentrum zum Kalten Krieg in Point Alpha. Diese Klassenfahrt fand nun schon zum dritten Mal statt, stellt also durchaus eine Tradition im Bildungsgefüge der ESRM dar. Begleitende Lehrkräfte und damit Schirmherren der Organisation und Durchführung waren Frau Eupper, Herr Riedel, Frau Donaldson, Herr Gumpp, Frau Buss und Herr Nickel.
Gegen 10.30 traf die Gruppe in Point Alpha, einem Dokumentationszentrum zur ehemaligen innerdeutschen Grenze bzw. zum Kalten Krieg, ein. Hier standen bis ca. 15.30 Uhr mehrere Aktivitäten auf dem Programm. Dazu gehörten der Besuch des Museums, mehrere Zeitzeugengespräche, ein Besuch eines amerikanischen Militärcamps sowie das Begehen der ehemaligen Grenzanlagen. Der Besuch von Point Alpha hatte als Ziel, Inhalte des Geschichtsunterrichtes in der S7, hier besonders das Thema „Kalter Krieg“, zu ergänzen.
Anschließend fuhr die Gruppe weiter nach Weimar, wo man gegen 18.00 eintraf und das Hostal bezog. Der Abend sah noch das ein oder andere spannende Billardspiel bzw. Kickermatch zwischen gemischten Schüler/Lehrerteams.
Freitag morgen um 9.30 stand der Besuch des ehemaligen Konzentrationslagers Buchenwald auf dem Programm. Nach einem 45-minütigen Einführungsfilm wurden die SchülerInnen in Kleingruppen von kompetenten DozentInnen der Gedenkstätte über das Lagergelände geführt und über die Schattenseiten der jüngeren deutschen Geschichte unterrichtet. Der Besuch von Buchenwald sollte Inhalte des Geschichtsunterrichts der Oberstufe ergänzen.
Nachmittags kam dann der linguistische Teil der Weimarreise zum Zuge. Es standen Besuche des Goethe- bzw. des Schillerhauses auf dem Programm.
Abgerundet wurde der Tag durch einen abendlichen Besuch des bekannten Weimarer Zwiebelmarktes.
Am Samstag morgen hatten die SchülerInnen noch die Gelegenheit das Bauhaus-Museum bzw. die Amalia-Bibliothek in Weimar zu besichtigen und danach auf dem Zwiebelmarkt noch Einkäufe zu tätigen. Gegen 16.30 trafen beide Busse wieder in Bad Vilbel ein.
 
Weimar class trip from 12th to 14th October with all S7 pupils

On Thursday, October 12th, at 8.30 a. m., two buses carrying a total of 79 pupils and six teachers set off on this year's three-day school trip to Weimar and the documentation centre for the Cold War at Point Alpha. Being the third time this trip is held, the trip is considered a cherished tradition in the educational structure of the ESRM. The accompanying teachers (and thus organizers of the trip) were Ms.Eupper, Mr.Riedel, Ms.Donaldson, Mr.Gumpp, Ms.Buss and Mr.Nickel.
Around 10.30 a.m. the group arrived at Point Alpha, a documentation centre on the former inner-German border and the Cold War. Several activities were on the agenda, keeping the students busy until around 3.30 p.m. This included a visit to the museum, a number of witness talks, a visit to an American military camp, and walking through the former border fortifications. The aim of the visit to Point Alpha was to complement the contents of the history lessons students receive in their S7 classes, especially the topic of the "Cold War".
Afterwards the group drove on to Weimar, arriving around 18.00 and settling into the hostel. The evening also included one or two exciting billiards games or table football matches between mixed teams of students/teacher.
On Friday morning at 9.30 a.m. a visit to the former concentration camp Buchenwald was scheduled. After a 45-minute introductory film, the students were led through the camp grounds in small groups by competent lecturers from the memorial site and informed about this dark side of German history. The visit to Buchenwald complements the history lessons of the secondary school.
In the afternoon, the linguistic part of the Weimar trip took place. The programme included visits to the Goethe House and the Schiller House.
The day was rounded off by an evening visit to the famous Weimar onion market.
On Saturday morning, the pupils had the opportunity to visit the Bauhaus Museum or the Amalia Library in Weimar and to do some shopping at the onion market. Around 16.30 both buses arrived again in Bad Vilbel, bringing this informational and exciting trip to an end.
