Michael Nickel Projektleitung ESRM

Smartlane before Plutus at this year’s Wirtschaftspaten Project at ESRM

Michael Nickel Projektleitung ESRM

Despite Corona, the project for S5 Economics students to establish a start-up took place again this year at the European School RheinMain in coordination with the association Wirtschaftspaten e. V. (A voluntary association in which former top managers and entrepreneurs teach entrepreneurial skills to schools and business founders, www.wirtschaftspaten.de). This year the project took place as an online event. Under the guidance of the “Wirtschaftspaten” a total of more than 60 students, divided into groups, tried to develop a business idea and bring it to a presentation stage. A total of 13 groups of students with their business ideas were part of the project. This represents a record participation in this school competition.
One of the tasks of the student teams was to start with constructive reflections on the business idea and to develop it on the basis of concrete steps. These included the use of a so-called business canvas model, an accurate market analysis, the calculation of fixed and variable costs, the elaboration of sales and communication channels and profitability calculations. In addition to learning economic content, all students should be able to further develop their digital and team-oriented skills during this project.
It was then presented online and the jury of the business sponsors had a difficult decision to make, as all 13 teams had developed convincing business ideas. This year’s winner was the team “Smartlane” in front of the team “Plutus” which came in 2nd place. Joint third were the “Sustainable” and “Smartobble” teams.

While the “Smartlane” team convinced with the business idea of a pick-up system for students controlled via a digital app, “Plutus” created a digital platform that offers micro-enterprises websites for their products. “Sustainable” and “Smartobble” convinced the jury with the idea of digital price tags in supermarkets or with a smartphone-connected drinking bottle for athletes. The winning team included Malte Hilliges, Hannah Sachau, Dominic Clotten, Lucia Fischer and Lena La Rock-Müller, all from S5EN.
